Jara is a workshop and studio for the design and production of ceramic, glass and metal artifacts. The studio was established by Batia and Alon Gil (graduates of the Bezalel Academy of Art) in the village of Clil situated in the Western Galilee between mountain and sea. This environment is an integral part of the creative process and finds expression in the artists' work.

We hold workshops and give courses in clay, glass and metal. The workshops vary according to the age and interests of the participants. For more information you are welcome to contact us.

The ceramic works of Alon Gil are designed in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors - functional bowls ,wall tiles, lamps, sinks, fountains and very large urns. The firing takes place in a gas kiln by the reduction technique whereby the flame influences the color of the clay and the glazing . The colors and glazes are manufactured in the studio and do not contain any poisonous materials, and are therefore safe to use. The high temperature of the firing (1,240 0 C) contributes to the high quality and endurance of these ceramic pieces.

Batia Gil Margalit

Batia creates glass objects by a fusing technique, whereby metal elements -- gold foil, silver , copper -- are inserted between two sheets of glass together with enamel colors and molded into shape by heat. The metals are converted into organic forms that are trapped inside the translucent glass and are influenced by the light passing through. The final artworks, in various shapes and sizes, have both a functional and decorative purpose.
